Sonos User Interview | Case 13: Three-bedroom townhouse in Silicon Valley, USA | Sonos system

This is a fully localized English version adapted from the original Traditional Chinese interview, with terminology and tone standardized for English readers.

  • Response timestamp: 2025/8/12 4:25:07 pm
  • Region and home layout: Silicon Valley, USA, three-bedroom townhouse
  • Primary use case: There is a video room dedicated to watching movies, and a living room for listening to music and watching general movies. The layout of other spaces is mainly used for listening to music and group playback.
  • Core setup: I bought all the equipment except S1. I have Sonos in the whole house except the toilet.
  • Entry point: When I wanted to buy a speaker, I started looking at soundbars. After listening to all the available ones on Best Buy, I found that there was no significantly better-sounding device from Sonos within my budget. So I first bought the YAS-207, which was the lowest budget at the time and sounded the best. After two years, I upgraded to the first set of Playbar 5.1 when there was a special offer, and then gradually upgraded.
  • Cross-brand comparison: I have tried everything that should be tried, and I have tried everything that should not be tried. Sonos still has the most comprehensive performance and the ecosystem is the most comfortable to use.
  • One line for beginners: It’s okay if you don’t buy it, because I’m not listening.
  • Placement and constraints: I have always wanted to hang the Era 300 rear ring in the living room upside down, but I have been too lazy to start the work.
  • Trueplay feedback: Trueplay is one of the essences of Sonos, and few other companies have made any noticeable difference in tuning technology at the consumer level.
  • Subwoofer decision: No, I bought it as soon as it was on sale.
  • What they like most about Sonos: First of all, this volume achieves very good results, and because of its modular use of underlying design logic, the layout can be easily changed according to different life stages and living spaces. No other system can compare with the expansion performance that has been used for a long time, whether it is a solo battle or a team battle.
  • Who likes Sonos the most at home: I
  • Most frustrating issue: The reset method is very silent and requires a mysterious ritual to be reset. Beginners won’t know it if they haven’t looked it up. And there is no way to restart it from the app. You have to unplug it to restart it. If the plug-in position is awkward, it will be a pain (maybe it needs to be equipped with a smart socket?).
  • Feature request: Full wireless physical free configuration + trueplay, I hope this day is not far away.
  • Music used for testing: Gods - new jeans
  • Movies used for testing: Ready Player One (race sequence)
  • Animal analogy for Sonos: Penguins and seals may be very powerful in hunting penguins in the water, but on ice, penguins can use gliding, collision, and cooperation to push seals back. Just like Sonos, in a “small space, multi-room, multi-purpose” environment, it can suppress traditional systems that are bulky and require a lot of space.
  • Most absurd thing they did: Because I like using Sonos, I created my own Sonos community group.
  • Dream setup if budget was unlimited: Even the I would even put Sonos in the bathroom
  • Final note: Please hurry up and join the Sonos users around you and friends who are interested in Sonos😄
  • Top-ranked device: Era 300, the shock of unboxing test is still fresh in my memory. (Amazon JP Shop)
